Late Janab Mohd.Khaleelur Rahman  saheb   S/o Late Mohd Abdul Lateef was born on January 4, 1936 in Kodangal, Mahbubnagar Dist, of Andhra Pradesh. He did his M.A.LL.B.,D.P.A.(Public Administration) from Osmania University and was an Advocate by Professsion and  agriculturist. He held many important and influential positions in Indian politics in his political career spanning more than five decades. He represented the state of Andhra Pradesh for two terms in the Upper House of Parliament that is Rajya Sabha. He was a very respected Muslim Leader from the state of Andhra Pradesh who enjoyed  the love, affection and support of intellectuals, organizations and people of  AP and was always seen as a fair and firm voice of the Voiceless in the country. He was the senior parliamentarian from Andhra Pradesh. He was the firebrand speaker and has always received applaud for his speeches in Parliament. He was given the well behaved and always smiling parliamentarian award by the President of India. He started his political career with Janata Party in 1978 under the leadership of Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan ji and contested the election to the State Assembly in 1978. When N.T.Rama Rao decided to float a political party, he consulted Janab Khaleelur Rahman saheb and the other senior colleagues such as Shri Nadendla Bhasker Rao garu, Shri N.Srinivaslulu Reddy, Shri P.Upendra and others. It is then the Telugu Desam came into existence in 1982 and Janab Khaleelur Rahman Saheb was the founding member of the Telugu Desam Party and he was the signatory to the constitution of the TDP party. He was known throughout the country in the political circles as the most honest and the principled politician and statesman. He never ran after the posts but due to his hard work, dedication and service to the poor and down trodden, the success touched his feet and he never let that success travel to his head. When Chandra Babu Naidu aligned with the NDA government in 1999, he protested against that and resigned from the TDP and later in 2000 he joined the Congress Party under the leadership of Smt.Sonia Gandhi. He worked tirelessly to bring the muslims close to the Congress party and as a result of that the Congress came back to power in 2004 in Andhra Pradesh. As a member of the Congress Party Manifesto Committee, he suggested and prevailed upon the Congress party to include 5 perv=cent Reservations for the Economically backward muslims in Andhra Pradesh. He was an authority on the wakf matters and played a key role in the Wakf Act 1995. He was an institution in himself. On his demise, the Hyderabad was converted into the sea of humanity and people irrespective of caste and creed participated in his last journey. The UPA Chairperson, Prime Minister, Union Ministers, Chief Ministers and the Opposition leaders have sent their condolences to the bereaved family members and spoke to his son Khaleequr Rahman.

Positions in the Congress Party:

Major Achievments:

    1. On his successful representation, the Govt. of India has declared the National Holiday on  Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi saw.
    2.  The Hyderabad Airport has attained international airport status during his tenure  as the Member of the Parliamentary Committee on Civil Aviation in 1992 through   his single handed efforts with the introduction of Hyderabad Sharjah Flight.
    3. On his successful representation, the Moulana Azad Urdu National University was founded in Hyderabad.
    4. On his successful representation, the then Chief Minister Shri Vijaya Bhasker Reddy has established the Minority Welfare Department with an initial grant of Rs.1.00 Crore.
    5. He also represented successfully and got the exemption from the payment of the Airport tax of Rs.750/- per Haji by the Haj Pilgrims from the Govt. of India.
    6. On his successful representation in Parliament, the Minority Commissions and the Minority Finance Corporations were established in other states besides A.P.
    7. When he was the Member of the APCC Election manifesto committee, he proposed the 5% reservation for muslim minorities and got it included in the election manifesto of 2004 by representing strongly to Shri Y.S.Raja Shekar Reddy.

Social & Extra Curricular Activities:

6.                  Associated with the functioning and the activities of various local organizations working for the cause of promotion of Urdu and Upliftment of Minorities in Andhra Pradesh.

7.                  Participated in Various T.V. and Radio Focus Programmes and Discussions over Doordarshan and All India Radio Hyderabad and in various state and national level seminars/symposiums/conferences held in Hyderabad, Delhi, Madras and Bombay on the subjects of promotion of Urdu, National Integration and Upliftment and Weaker sections.

8.                  President- Jubilee Hills Mosque and Islamic Centre

Janab Mohd.Khaleelur Rahman Saheb was the founding member of the Telugu Desam Party. He resigned from the TDP protesting against TDP supporting the NDA(BJP) government at centre in 1998. He joined Congress party in 2000 and worked tirelessly for the cause of minorities and bringing minorities close to the congress Party. He was also the member of the AICC from 2000-2005. His secular credentials had made him the most acceptable and the non-controversial leader in the state. He has never shown any fear or hesitation in standing for the cause of secularism and raising voices for  the oppressed and the suppressed.  He always believed in inclusive growth and unity of all people of the India. He was considered as an Ambassador of Ganga Jamuni Thezeeb of Hyerabad.

He was loved and respected across party lines by all his colleagues in Parliament and in Political parties, and in public.

He will always be remembered and respected by the people of Andhra Pradesh  and the country for his services for the cause of secularism and urdu in the country and for his love and Earnest support and work for his community and people.

May Allah swt reward him for his good work and give him high rewards in  life he has migrated in, the life which will be forever and  I pray for  him to  be  raised on the day of judgment, among the Saleheen and Shuhadaa. Amin.
